Tucumán’s Plaza Temática will once again become the heart of Argentina’s World Cup 2026 celebrations as the national team, led by Lionel Scaloni, faces England in the semifinal on Wednesday, July 15. With a strong recent form—three wins in their last five matches, including a 2-0 victory over Angola on November 14, 2025—the atmosphere in the plaza is set to be electric.

What will happen at the plaza?

Starting at 2:00 PM local time, the Municipality of San Miguel de Tucumán will set up a giant screen at the corner of Congreso and San Lorenzo to broadcast the match, which kicks off at 4:00 PM. Attendees can enjoy football-themed games, trivia about Argentina’s history, raffles for balls and jerseys, and a food fair with options for all ages. The Mega Eco Canje Mundial will also let visitors exchange recyclables for prizes, adding an eco-friendly touch to the event.

Why Tucumán?

Culture Subsecretary Ana Lía Carbonell explained that the plaza was chosen for its tradition: «This is where everything began during the last World Cup, and we want it to be a space for unity for Tucumans». Mayor Rossana Chahla spearheaded the initiative to ensure locals and tourists could experience the match in a safe and festive environment. Police will reinforce security to maintain order.

What’s next for Argentina?

With Scaloni in charge and the team in top form, the Albiceleste aims to advance to the final. The plaza will serve not only as a gathering point but as a symbol of Argentine passion. «We hope to win and keep celebrating this festival», said Carbonell, as fans prepare to rally behind their team on the biggest stage.
